# Creating an Estimate

This article walks through creating and sending an estimate in HiveCRM.

## Create an Estimate

1. Go to **Hive CRM → Invoices**.
2. Click **Add Estimate**.
3. Select the client, then add line items with quantities, units, and prices.
4. Apply any tax rates configured under [Estimates & Invoices Settings](estimates-invoices-settings.md).
5. Click **Save**.

The estimate is automatically numbered using your configured **Estimate Number Prefix**.

## Send an Estimate to a Client

Once saved, send the estimate to the client. If the [Client Portal](client-portal-overview.md) is enabled with Invoices visible, the client can also view it from their portal.

## Expiration Reminders

If **Automatic Expiration Reminders** are enabled under [Estimates & Invoices Settings](estimates-invoices-settings.md), HiveCRM automatically emails the client as the estimate's expiration date approaches, and can notify you after it expires.

## Convert an Approved Estimate to an Invoice

Once a client accepts an estimate, open it and use the convert action to generate an invoice from it — carrying over the line items, client, and pricing automatically.
