# Conflicts with other plugins and caching

Most conflicts come from a security plugin or firewall blocking the REST API, a cache storing pages it should not, or another plugin changing email. Check in this order.

1. **The screens do not load or saving fails** ("Hive Mail couldn't load", or a stuck "Loading Hive Mail"). The app uses the REST API (`/wp-json/hivemail/v1/...`).

   - In the browser's **Network** tab, look at requests to `/wp-json/hivemail/`: `401`/`403` means blocked, `404` means broken routing, `500` means a PHP error.
   - Open `https://yoursite.com/wp-json/` while logged in. An error means a security plugin or firewall blocks the REST API: allow it for logged-in users.
   - `404`: open WordPress **Settings > Permalinks** and click **Save Changes**.
   - `500` or blank: check **Tools > Site Health > Info** and the PHP error log, then deactivate other plugins one by one.
   - Stuck loading: check the **Console** for a JavaScript error; switch off script combining or delaying in the admin.
   - "You are not allowed to do that.": see [Settings: Roles & Permissions](/docs/hive-mail-settings-roles-and-permissions/).
2. **Page caching.** Exclude these from the cache:

   - The Unsubscribe, Email preferences and Subscription confirmed pages (each link carries a private `?t=` key).
   - Any address containing `hivemail=` (clicks, the open picture, "View in browser", incoming webhooks and the tracker).
   - `hivemail-track.js` and `hivemail-form.js`: do not combine, delay or remove them. Signup forms themselves are safe on a cached page; a page cached over a day asks the visitor to reload.
   - After changing anything that shows on the front end, clear the page cache once.
3. **A signup form does not submit or the banner does not show.** A plugin that delays all scripts is the usual cause: exclude `hivemail-form.js` and `hivemail-track.js`. Popups and page-builder form handlers may block the default submit; use the shortcode or block.
4. **Links in emails say "This link does not work".** The link was shortened or rewritten, or the site's secret keys (salts in `wp-config.php`) changed. Keep the same salts when you move or restore a site. New emails work at once; old ones cannot be repaired. Do not deactivate Hive Mail while campaigns are out.
5. **Other email plugins.** Keep only one SMTP plugin active (**Settings > Sending** shows the one found). A plugin that rewrites every email can break unsubscribe links and tracking: test with **Send test email**. Do not run two email-marketing tools on the same list.
6. **Scheduled work is stuck.** Maintenance and coming-soon plugins can stop the site calling itself (**Site can call itself** shows **Failed** in **Settings > Scheduler**). Allow the site's own address, or use a server cron ([Scheduled sending and cron](/docs/hive-mail-scheduled-sending-and-cron/)).

To find the culprit, deactivate every plugin except Hive Mail on a staging copy and reactivate them one by one. Set **System log level** to **Debug (everything)** for one test and read **Settings > Tools > System log**.
