# Managing Contacts

This article covers creating, editing, and organizing contacts in HiveCRM.

## Create a Contact

1. Go to **Hive CRM → Contacts**.
2. Click **Add Contact**.
3. Choose **Individual Person** or **Company / Organization**.
4. Fill in the contact's name and details. For a Person, you can optionally link them to an existing Organization as their **Company / Organization**. For an Organization, you can set a **Primary Contact Person**.
5. Click **Create Contact** (or **Create Organization**).

If you've configured a **Default Relationship Status** and **Default Contact Classification** under [Contact Settings](contact-settings.md), those are pre-filled automatically.

## Edit a Contact

Open a contact from the list to see its full record, then click **Edit** to update its details.

## Duplicate Handling

If you submit a contact with an email address that already exists, HiveCRM applies your configured **Duplicate Email Handling Policy** (merge and update the existing record, reject the submission, or allow duplicates) — see [Contact Settings](contact-settings.md).

## Change a Contact's Relationship Status

Open the contact and update its **Relationship Status** field to reflect where they are in your pipeline (for example moving from Lead/Prospect to Active Client).

## Link People to an Organization

Organizations can have multiple linked people. When editing a Person contact, use the **Company / Organization** field to associate them with an existing organization.

## Delete a Contact

Open the contact and click the delete action, then confirm. Deleted contacts are moved to **Trash** and can be restored before being permanently removed.
