# MCP Server Integration

HiveCRM includes a built-in MCP (Model Context Protocol) server, letting you connect AI assistants like Claude and ChatGPT directly to your CRM data.

## What Is MCP?

MCP is an open standard that lets an AI assistant call tools exposed by an application — in this case, your HiveCRM data — instead of only chatting in general terms. Once connected, an assistant can look up records, summarize your pipeline, or take actions on your behalf, using your actual live CRM data rather than guessing.

## How to Open MCP Server Settings

Go to **Hive CRM → Settings → MCP Server**.

## Enable the MCP Server

Toggle the server **Enabled**. Once active, HiveCRM exposes a server URL that AI clients connect to.

## What an AI Assistant Can Do

Once connected, an assistant has access to 43 tools across these groups:

| Group | Tools | Capabilities |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Search | 1 | Search Leads, Deals, Contacts, Clients, Invoices, Tickets, and Projects at once |
| Leads | 6 | List, get, stats, create, update, convert to deal |
| Deals | 5 | List, get, stats, create, update |
| Contacts | 4 | List, get, create, update (people and organizations) |
| Clients | 4 | List, get, create, update |
| Projects | 4 | List, get, create, update |
| Tasks | 3 | List, create, update |
| Tickets | 4 | List, get, stats, reply to a ticket |
| Invoices & Estimates | 5 | List, get, stats, create, update status |
| Tags & Taxonomies | 2 | List, create |
| Products & Packages | 5 | List, get, stats, create, update |

## Authentication Methods

HiveCRM's MCP server supports two ways to connect, depending on the client:

### Application Password (Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, and other local/CLI clients)

1. Go to **Hive CRM → Settings → Public REST API** (or directly from the MCP screen) and create an Application Password.
2. Use it as HTTP Basic Auth credentials when adding the MCP server to your client.

For example, in Claude Code:

```
claude mcp add --transport http hivecrm "https://yoursite.com/wp-json/hive-crm/v1/mcp" --header "Authorization: Basic BASE64(your_username:your_application_password)"
```

### OAuth (ChatGPT and Claude.ai)

For hosted assistants like ChatGPT and Claude.ai, HiveCRM supports a standard OAuth login flow: you add HiveCRM's MCP server URL in the assistant's connector settings, it redirects you to log in to your WordPress site, and you approve the connection — no application password needed. The assistant then holds its own token, independent of your login credentials.

## Where to Set This Up

Everything above is configured from **Hive CRM → Settings → MCP Server**: enabling the server, creating/revoking Application Passwords, and copying the exact connection command for your client of choice (Claude Code, Claude Desktop/Cursor, ChatGPT/Claude.ai, or a raw cURL test command).

## Security Notes

- Every MCP connection authenticates as a specific WordPress user, so the assistant only has that user's own HiveCRM permissions — a Staff-level connection cannot do anything a Staff member couldn't do in the CRM itself.
- Revoke an Application Password at any time from **Settings → Public REST API** to immediately cut off that connection.
- Active MCP connections are listed on the MCP Server settings screen, where you can revoke any connection individually.

## Example Prompts

Once connected, you can ask your assistant things like:

- "Show me all deals closing this month and their total value."
- "Summarize the open support tickets and flag any that have been unanswered for more than 2 days."
- "Create a follow-up task for the Acme Corp deal, due in 3 days."
